Last night a group of us went to see Harry Potter in Riverside. I was overwhelmed by the whole thing--it was so much better than the last two, which I had also enjoyed. The atmosphere of the movie felt so *right*. And the characters were better acted than ever before. I'm sad that Cuaron (sp?) isn't directing the fourth one as well.

Today was good--[livejournal.com profile] morganlf and I went to a local Vietnamese restaurant that reminded me of the Indonesian rumah makanan's of my youth. The food was excellent--I especially liked the spring rolls, although Noodle Planet in Westwood makes better ones! Alison's lemon-grass chicken was quite good as well.... Being there reminded me of all the Indonesian fruits I miss. Most of all, I miss rambutan--a small red hairy fruit that's a close relative of the lychee.

I'm torn about leaving for Portland for the summer. I'm looking forward to the work and progressing on my own research, but I'm going to miss Alison and our apartment and LA in general. Summer housing is being a real pain--I'm in the process of checking out more leads, but finding a 3 month lease or month-to-month is proving exceedingly difficult. Most places want 6 mo. or year leases. Aargh. Worst case, I'll sleep on the lab floor for a few days. :)
