Fat, sticky green threads slink down the tomato vines. Touched they rise rampant, feet flailing in defiance. Cabbage loopers and Tomato hornworms are decimating my tomato plants. They're double teaming the plants, the loopers eating the leaves and the hornworms are finishing off the baby fruit. The loopers have also done an impressive job on the basil, and snails and slugs are feasting on two of our three mint species. Tonight I will hit the snails and slugs with Sluggo, and the rest of the garden is going to get sprayed.

The good news is that the tomatoes are beginning to ripen! We harvested some cherry tomatoes and our first Early Girl! I never thought the tomatoes would ripen, given the narrow window of sunlight they receive, but the Early Girl was wonderful--so much better than grocery store tomatoes. A. and I are planning on making Margherita pizza this week with our basil, tomatoes, and some of Trader Joe's foccacia/pizza dough. Yum.
