first day at work!
Jun. 21st, 2004 09:01 pmToday was my first day at Intel Jones Farm! It was pretty good overall. Far too much time was spent in orientation--almost 6 hours, including a coffee break. This is more than either Aerospace or IBM Research--btw, and most of it was really non-essential. Such as the hour spent discussing the background of the Intel founders. Yes, I know Gordon Moore is a cool guy, but still. An hour? Really.
In the afternoon I met my group and the other technical team members working on Secure Seamless Networking--there are a total of four of us, which seems like it will be a good team size. The only downside is that I have to develop in !@#$ Visual Studio for Windows XP and Windows CE. Here's where I protest "but I do Linux and Java" to deaf ears. *sigh*
At least the work is interesting and hopefully dissertation-related-enough that I can figure out a way to fold it all back in come fall. The basic project concept in one sentence is user-friendly and mostly-automated formation of security associations between mobile devices and maintenance of said associations.
